In 2022, the ITCC Board of Directors met in Chicago to develop the strategic plan, also known as the Compass. The Board discussed the state of the organization, its hopes for the future, and how they could bridge the gap to make that future a reality. In the end, they outlined four goal areas that provided a roadmap for the organization’s next two years. The Board is elated to share that because of the hard work of the ITCC membership, the plan has been completed, and before year’s end – a real cause for celebration! Keep reading to learn more about the four goals and the work completed as a result.

Goal #1: Value

The strategic plan’s first goal was focused on the value of an ITCC membership. The Board sought to establish, reinforce, and promote the value of certification and ITCC’s research to external audiences and create resources that enable members to communicate the value of certification to their stakeholders.

Highlighted accomplishment: The ITCC external workgroup partnered with the Forbes Human Resources Council and published four articles in 2024, with topics covering filling IT skills gaps in the workplace; the importance of certified IT professionals to an organization; differences between IT certifications and learning assessments; and how certifications can be a powerful tool in measuring job skills.

Two of these articles were repurposed and shared in the newsletter for SHRM, an HR network of nearly 340,000 professionals.

Goal #2: Evolution of Testing

The second goal of the Compass was to define a process to review and identify emerging trends and how to share those findings.

Highlighted accomplishment: The SPARC task force established a process to research new models and practices via the member topic ideas on the ITCC website. Member ideas are shared with the SPARC task force and evaluated and distributed according to the newly launched process.

Goal #3: Membership Impact

The third goal aimed to develop a process to define and commission content based on the identified needs; define and provide timely, relevant research resources; deliver intentional educational programming that engages and educates the community; and promote collaboration and dialogue opportunities to exchange ideas and deepen member connections.

There were a number of accomplishments under this goal, including:

  • Completed a deep dive member benefits review
  • Conducted a member value survey
  • Developed a member resources promotional plan

Goal #4: ITCC Culture

The plan’s fourth goal worked to design, manage, and communicate organizational policies that reflect ITCC’s values; implement an organizational structure that enables collaborative and agile work; and establish organizational vitality through continuous recruitment and development of ITCC leadership.

Highlighted accomplishments: The creation of the ITCC Culture Statements, which have been incorporated by the Board into ITCC’s daily activities, and the deep dive into the ITCC’s current policies to ensure they align with the culture statements, which resulted in updates to the organizations’ vendor guidelines and the membership directory, creating more equitable opportunities for all member groups to engage.

Thank you to all who volunteered their time and energy to make these achievements possible! Your effort and input will ensure ITCC continues to serve members today and in the future!

There’s something about the word “certified” when it precedes a professional title that conveys the consumers and employers a sense of trust, credibility, knowledge and an official “stamp” of approval. This is not a coincidence. IT certification has long been a proven means of differentiation and qualification among professionals in the industry. Employers often include certification as a prerequisite when seeking qualified candidates to fill positions; consumers often trust only those IT professionals who boast credentials proving they have attained a certain level of knowledge.
