The Fourth Industrial Revolution is already here, with business organizations based not on computing, but on intelligence and digital connectivity. Since the Second Industrial Revolution, we have operated from a “process” mentality, with learning and evaluation driven from the models put forth by B.F. Skinner and Benjamin Bloom. In the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we will need to operate from a “story” mentality and evaluate learning through the structure of stories.

Why is this topic important to the IT certification industry?
What gets measured is what gets done. As we move into the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the organization’s learning requirements will be out of sync with evaluation strategies unless the business, learning, and evaluation practices all align to the new challenges.
What key takeaway do you hope attendees learn or implement based on your presentation?
The key takeaway is that our current education system is based on evaluation models, not learning models. The hope is that attendees will learn and implement evaluation strategies that operate from the structure of stories instead of Bloom’s Taxonomy, to align evaluation with the learning methodologies required in the future.
What’s the biggest change for the IT certification industry that this topic is driving? Or should be aware of? Trends?
In the Fourth Industrial Revolution, AI and robotics will be the primary providers of repetitive and routine work in the organization. The human workers at all levels will require more strategic thinking embedded within their learning and evaluation programs.

Dr. John Lewis is a consultant, speaker, and coach on the topics of human capital and strategic change within the knowledge-driven enterprise. John holds a Doctoral degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Southern California, with a dissertation focus on mental models and decision making. He is a certified coach in Collaborative Change Leadership from The CoHero Institute, with a certificate in Leadership Coaching from The John Maxwell Team, and a performance improvement certificate in Six Sigma. John is a member of I2KI (International Institute for Knowledge & Innovation), a member of ISPI (International Society for Performance Improvement), and an associate editor for Leadership and Organizational Behavior with the Journal of Innovation Management.
